Back on track

Starting weight: 222.5 Pounds

I’m back! ( I think?)

I have been trying to get back on this healthy path again. I mentioned awhile back that I have a couple of pinup contests this summer. One I was not in (a runner up) that has came and went, one in about a week, and then the big one summer spectacular in August! My dress for the show in August has came in it’s way out of my comfort zone as dresses go but I plan to rock it none the less that means losing a few pounds between now and then is my goal.

I had all intentions of starting this Monday: I would weigh in, make a good breakfast, go for a walk/workout around the lake before it got too hot, meal prep for the week and a good refueling lunch.

Let’s just say all but working out made the list today.

My monthly visitor is here and it reared it’s ugly head in my direction big time. I suddenly felt really exhausted, and had a massive headache develop on the side of my head. I usually have odd symptoms during it so I just drained all of a sudden. I took it as an indicator not to go on a walk so I made a smoothie, drank plenty of fluids and laid back down.

As I always say: Listen to your body is key.

After a two hour nap, I got up ran my errands, prepped my lunch for work tonight (adult lunchables this week), oats for breakfast tomorrow, and I made a salad for lunch with the rest of smoothie as well.

I almost wanted to scrap the idea of starting this again until after my cycle but then I thought what a better time to do it because I tend to want to really cheat when I am on my cycle you know more sweets and carbs. I want to prove to myself that I can do it!! I didn’t buy any chocolate when I did my small grocery run so I consider that a small victory for me. Lucky for me I only have a short cycle (3 days) I know I can do it!

Weighing in was really hard because this is the most I’ve weighed in a long time. It’s a hard pill to swallow but I won’t let it get me down! I have made some smaller goals to help aid in my success!

I am still doing a loose based Keto for my diet, I have been trying to find more recipes to try out. I haven’t brought bread since April which has been a bit of a game changer for me but I am a carb queen but I’ve noticed that I don’t miss it as much as I thought I would. I do give into sandwiches and stuff during my cheat days.

Anyways, I am hoping the rest of the week is better than Monday! I will end this post with a break down of my goals!

*Loose 5 pounds by July 21st

*Start walking again

*Go to the Y at least once a week

*Less pop and junk

*Loose 10 pounds by the end of July

Final end goal lose: 20 pounds by August 25th

I really want to make this happen! I just got to hang in there and remember my why’s!

I will be back doing weekly check ins to keep myself accountable!

See you in a week!

Something different

Hello!

This isn’t much of an update because I didn’t weigh like I had said. I had another lousy week. I did see the dermatologist on Tuesday was given a prescription but it was never called into the pharmacy! Talk about frustrating!! So needless to say I am still itchy and miserable and I see them again in a week.

The mercury retrograde/weather have really taken it’s toll on me last week along with other emotional crap (yay me) so I spent more time focusing on self care.

I have decided to try a bit of Keto into my diet which I had thought about doing in the past but didn’t stick to it in the past. A summary of Keto is basically reverting back to caveman habits. Lots of meat come into play along with certain veggies/fruit. You do have to cut out a lot of stuff including carbs, peanut butter (eeek) milk, and starchy foods. I am not sure how well I am going to do on this but I am going to give it the old college try as they say.  I don’t think I can give up milk peruse but I am willing to give up pasta and bread for a while.

I am giving myself two weeks which is when I will go grocery shopping again to give it an honest effort as much as I can. Plus I am hoping to make it back to the gym this week! I promise! There won’t be any updates until then unless something Earth shattering happens!

I’ll see you in two weeks!

Check in time!

I know it’s been awhile since I have checked in. TBH I haven’t done anything fitness related in a long ass time probably since the time I last checked in. I haven’t been to the gym at all this month, drinking pop, not weighing in, and not really doing a solid meal prep either.  I mean I did a quick prep last week of an easy recipe (a chicken pasta salad which I will share the recipe here at some point) but I haven’t really been eating too well so I need to get back on track.

I did have the Miss World of Wheels pageant Saturday and my sleep was really thrown off so by Sunday afternoon I slept hard. Also I have been dealing with itchy hives not sure if it’s an allergy may have to go see the doctor which I hate especially it’s still flu season and plus having to stepping on the scale there.

Monday morning I did an actual meal prep for the week:

Chicken
Chicken fillets with cauliflower (which was steaming)

My calves hurt SO BAD from my heels Saturday so I know I am due for a good leg day workout. Overall, I still don’t feel like myself the weather has still sucked even though tomorrow the first day of spring (and it’s supposed to snow) and I have been just so tired as well which hasn’t helped.

I re established my goals and I am going to make an honest attempt at going to the gym this week. I am not putting how many days I should/need to go just to go and do something. Start out slow and work my way back to where I used to be, The weather will be warmer and I can start walking too.

I will recap my week on Sunday and I will weigh in regardless of what it is and we’ll get back on track!

Have a great week!

Wishy Washy Dieters

Disclaimer: This post is my opinion. I know everyone has different lifestyles and choices.

We’ve all heard the term before yo-yo dieters or I’d like to call it wishy washy. People who try a bunch of different diets they lose weight for a while, then they fall off the wagon and gain weight, they try another diet, lose weight again then fall the wagon yet again and gain even more weight. I know because I’ve been there.

Why I am writing about this a friend I follow on social media IS a yo-yo dieter. I didn’t realize it until recently. This person has tried EVERYTHING that I can think of. They’ve done well but then they slip and they try yet another diet it is a vicious cycle. I feel bad for them because they have made excellent progress they just struggle when it comes to the diet part (mostly). I for one get it because I have not been on point at all either but I’ve seen this many other fellow weight loss people I follow they do super great for a while then suddenly they fall off the face of the planet (ahem like me and this blog) and you don’t hear from them for a long until they resurface trying something yet again that may sound great to them but they set themselves up for failure.

My story: If you remember, I joined Curves (is that even still around?) in early 2005-ish? And I was a solid member for almost two-years before I ended up quitting for personal reasons. But I did their weight loss class not once but twice because I really thought it could help me. The cost was about $70 it included the course for 30 minutes (I think) where we watched a video, then had a small discussion and weekly weigh ins, their “products” including a protein shake and their vitamins and a book on how to do their diet. They were three phases: The first being a don’t eat a whole lot phase, to a little more phase to a plateau phase where you increase your calories or whatever then when you felt you repeated phase one again. Strange I know but I did benefit from it. But it was hard because I was still living at home, so I really didn’t have control in the food that was purchased I had some say but I couldn’t strictly put my whole family on a diet.  However, I made it work. This was the only “diet” I really tried before I gave up and gained 217 pounds.

I never tried anything like Atkins, Weight Watchers, South Beach diet to name a few I did attempt Keto not long ago and also I tried to menu plan (which was failure) but mostly I would try to just cut back (like I did before) and try to exercise then I would lose weight but after some time I just fell back into my old habits. We all do. It happens its life. Find something that you’re able to do and stick to it. For me it was what I mentioned including drinking more water, cutting back on pop as well.

Back to my friend. A few days ago they admitted that they hadn’t been on point in their diet or their workout, they had been on a program for a while (a new one) and were going back to another original program before they tried this one, they admitted that: “eating clean was expensive, it’s the holidays, and they were going to eat processed foods”.

I am going to break this down for you from my view using some true and false with a bit explanations on my point of view on this.

  1. Eating clean is expensive. False. Yes and No. This all depends on you (plus your budget) and what YOU consider expensive. You don’t have to all clean but you can do simple modifications to eat healthier. I will be doing a post on that how to do it.
  2. It’s the holidays. True but that does that mean you give into temptations? No. I wrote last year how you can still enjoy the holidays without over doing it. “Everything in moderation” You can still have your cake or cookie and eat it to. Just don’t go overboard.
  3. Processed Foods. Tough subject. Depending who you ask too. I am guilty of eating processed foods as the next person. But I don’t guilt myself over it. Nobody is perfect. I think as I mentioned anyone can make simple changes to their diet.  Also you don’t have to eat out as often (I chose weekends) or make healthier options when if and when you go out.

But the good news is my friend plan to continue their workouts and will add healthier options to their meals. I think they will be ok in the long run they have come this far they just have to keep going. They struggle with nutrition (as do I) and getting things to work. I know how that is! I’ve been there done that. Just finding something that works and sticking to it is the hardest thing we have to do. But we must not give up!

Here’s to not giving up!

Menu Plan take 2

Well the week is almost over and ending my 2nd attempt at the menu planning! If you remember I kind of fell off the wagon after the first week. I am pleased to report that I did a lot better this time around!!

I did make some alterations but for the most part I stayed on task. By the time Thursday rolled around, I had gotten home late from class which I am usually home by 1pm but I didn’t since class/training ran late. Plus my sinuses reared it’s ugly head and by the time I got home I didn’t want to put together my leftovers, I was hot, stuffy, and tired  so I settled for a Lean Cuisine meal but I had some unsweetened apple sauce with it then prepped hard-boiled to have for a light supper along with a bowl of cereal (I know an odd combination).

This weekend is when I will grocery shop so I will do a tentative menu plan. I think going week by week is way better than two weeks out. So look for pictures of everything soon.

I am excited I found some more mushroom recipes that I am going to try! (Post on that soon!!)

I’ll be back hopefully with weigh in results!

Have a great weekend!

Weekly update!

Hello!

I start my 3rd week of school this week and last week was our first week of training the new PT students. I keep thinking how INSANE it is that I was in their position a year ago!!! Also at a different gym. And now I am creating and writing workouts.  What a difference a year makes! Still a work in process!

I have looked back at last year and I struggled so much. If I could go back and tell my last year self “Hey girl (yes I did say that!) you’re struggling right now but guess what? You get through it and you come out the other side!”

Last week, I mentioned I didn’t do well with the whole menu plan so I am trying it again this week. I made it loose so I not fully committed and have done some minor changes. Monday was a full on meal prep day, I made my food for work for the week with my crock which I have been using a lot more lately (it’s getting to be that time of year!), I made taco meat and I finally tried a new recipe (remember when I wanted to a while back??):

pizza

Veggie Pizza!! Here’s the recipe.  I did make round as opposed to square and used 1 tube of crescent rolls (low fat), only 1 block of cream cheese (low fat),  half the dry ranch packet, (low fat) miracle whip. Oh and I used a little bit of (low fat) Mozzarella shredded cheese. I made the crust ahead of time then I topped the pizza later in the morning. Turned out really good! I have been this whole pizza kick lately because I have been craving Domino’s so I have been trying to find somewhat healthier options. Last week, I did portabella stuffed mushroom pizzas (mushrooms are my jam!) too.

Last but not least I finally went back to the gym Monday! As you know I have been struggling emotionally and my motivation has been low but finally I went in and did a simple workout.

I have weigh-in this week which I might wait till Saturday.

Goal for the week: Is to stay on track with my menu plan and at least attend 2 classes of Jazzercise since I haven’t been in almost a month!!

I will be back later to report my 2nd round of menu planning!

Have a great week!

Menu/meal planning

I thought what would help me maybe to make better decisions in my eating habits is to menu/meal plan. I have never really done it before so I thought as they say “Give it the old college try” and it’s fitting since I am a college student!

As I’ve mentioned before, I go with the flow on my meals mainly because:

  1. I work overnights
  2. I go to school part time
  3. My schedule is way different
  4. I grocery shop every two weeks
  5. Whatever I have on hand is what I prepare
  6. Plus it’s just me, myself and I

So why plan? For starters it will help me eat out less, not eat junk, stop relying on processed food as much and maybe help drop the weight I gained. Also to try new recipes too. Plus also to use leftovers more too so I don’t waste food.

I typically eat your three meals a day plus I suppose an extra since I work overnights where most would consider that lunch? I’m not sure but working 8 hours does make you hungry and you have to fuel your body.

I do eat breakfast depending on the day if I have class I will eat a bigger breakfast to help curb my appetite until I get home, I also take a small snack if need be, I have lunch then I sleep and then in the evening, on those days I will have a light meal mainly because I sleep later those days and I want something quick and easy to eat. Then I take something that I prep ahead. On non school days, if I go workout I eat a lighter breakfast, followed by lunch, sleep and then a filling supper.

Well, I had a great menu all planned out and I didn’t follow it. Basically it feel through after a week!! #EpicFail.

The original plan was to cook Sunday supper then meal prep for the week…. I ended up falling asleep at 4pm and I got once had a snack then went back to bed and I got up later in the morning. I did throw stuff in the crock pot for the week on Monday plus I did put together tuna salad as well, but it wasn’t I had planned originally and I tried to alter my menu as I went along but I gave up too quickly I might add. Although, I may start over and try it again for next week. It is definitely trial and error!

I’ll be back with another update I’m sure!
